It should be sston, though, that this section does teach some history and provides a decent summary of the events for those unfamiliar with the Peasants’ Revolt. Ok, here’s why it’s not a full 5 star read for me. Five Books interviews are expensive to produce. I ended up totally loving Katherine. I didn’t like them all, but Ms Seton’s writing bought them all to life in a way that I was interested in them all. It is those kind of details that make these people come to life kahherine me.

Solid, engaging historical fiction about the mistress of John of Gaunt who was the ancestress of the Tudors. I sit in no judgment of that, but at the same time she couldn’t possibly have been such a Pollyanna. I setton still trying to track them down, as some are pretty rare. She’s got two good plots and switches back and forth between them, which makes the book feel patched together.
At various times, I liked her and disliked her, sympathized with her and grew frustrated at her decisions. Unfortunately, this book didn’t quite live up to its 5 star! I am also a huge admirer of Julian of Norwich so I was pleased to see her make an appearance towards the end of the book.
Sounded funnier in my head. Kathryn has been a hero of mine all my life. And there are some things that don’t work about it. Katherine Swynford was a significant figure in English history. It’s weird — I get a lot of traffic to this blog from people searching for information about Katherine Swynford and one of the things that they are looking for most of all is whether there is a film … I can’t quite believe that nobody has ever made one.
Their well-documented affair spans many decades to the point when they finally marry, despite British convention, late in their lives. But I have not read it. She starts off as a naive 15 year old from a convent and by the end of the book, her posterity is well on its way of becoming the future royalty of England.

As a historical romance, Katherine is considered well written and carefully researched, given that Seton was not a historian or paleographer and was working in the s, when less information was available to her. John is son of Edward III. These were a group of people who recognised that they were stronger together than they were apart and they changed the face of history. I realized that it is the same of that from “A Knight’s Tale,” and reading about Chaucer and other historical figures made this book all the better. Knight fever: my favourite historical novels
One may have to reread parts, but if you focus you will find this a rewarding historical page turner, and understand why after 55 years it is still a best loved classic of historical literature. So the wiles of plot are nullified. After Hugh died, Katherine and the Duke stole away and had their long anticipated love affair. It’s not a romance, it’s his dukeliness wantin’ him a piece and Katherine, no dope, trottin’ right along with the program. If you’re comfortable with your child watching any show on prime time TV, then this book will seem blase when it comes to sexual situations.
Chapter 22 – James Bradley on Climate Change Novels. While the plot sounds simple, the time and setting were not. This book was a daunting task and were it not for a sworn pledge from a fellow trusted reader, I’d have tossed the book aside by Chapter 3 and ‘promised’ myself I’d read it later when there wasn’t anything else to do.
Minor characters often just walk on-stage and walk right off again without making an impact or serving merely as a deus ex machina to move things along.
